About

Future Journal is an independent-minded publication about possible futures: how people might live, work, make, learn and share space as circumstances change. It is for curious readers who want to think beyond predictions without needing specialist knowledge.

Possibilities, not prophecies

A scenario is a way to explore a possibility, not a promise that it will happen. We make the assumptions behind each imagined future clear and avoid presenting speculation as fact. Where a story discusses a present-day development, we distinguish that from what might follow.

A useful way to wonder

We aim to make futures thinking concrete. That can mean following one change into a home, a street or a workplace, or comparing different ways a choice could unfold. We use plain language, explain unfamiliar terms and leave space for readers to form their own view.

Questions worth carrying forward

Our subjects range across culture, technology, cities and the methods people use to imagine change. The common thread is a thoughtful question about what could come next, who might be affected and which assumptions deserve a second look.
